At least 12 people killed in mine collapse in southern Venezuela

PUERTO ORDAZ (Venezuela), 5th June 2023, (WAM). — Local authorities reported on Sunday that a flood collapsed a mine of gold in the south of Venezuela, killing 12 miners. They added that their bodies had been returned to families.

Reuters reports that the Talavera Mine in El Callao in Bolivar State, Venezuela, was flooded by heavy rains on Wednesday. Rescue workers were unable to finish their recovery efforts until Saturday.

Edgar Colina said that another 112 people were rescued from the mine collapse. He added that the authorities would return to the site to search for any other survivors.
