ADIHEX launches a competition for the “Best Sculpture of Traditional Handcrafts”

ABU DHABI, June 4, 2023 (WAM), – For the second year in a row, the Abu Dhabi International Hunting & Equestrian Exhibition has announced the opening of submissions for its competition of the best traditional handcrafts sculptures.

The exhibition is celebrating the Year of Sustainability and highlighting the theme of “Sustainability & Heritage… A Reborn Dream”.

The competition is designed to highlight the beauty, diversity and richness of the UAE’s heritage and environment. The competition also aims to increase efforts to preserve elements of Emirati heritage by ensuring that its industries are passed on from generation to another and stimulating innovation in the best heritage crafts.

The competition encourages knowledge exchange and expertise between individuals and companies working in the handicraft industry. It also raises awareness about the importance of traditional crafts.

Conditions and criteria to participate and win are: The artwork must be created in 2023, and displayed at the 20th edition ADIHEX. It is also important that the work uses natural materials and is related to Emirati Heritage.

The degree of perfection, consistency, and quality of the traditional materials used, along with the level of craftsmanship, precision of manufacturing, raw material use, and compliance to safety standards, are all taken into consideration. The sculpture’s dimensions must be appropriate for its intended use. The artwork must reflect ancient lifestyles and traditional professions. It should also contribute to the sustainability and the handicraft industry and emphasize the details and components of the Emirati landscape and environment using natural materials.

The product must also be sold at a reasonable price if the quantity is sufficient to sell it to tourists and visitors. Individuals and companies from all countries are welcome to participate.

Last year, the “Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts” won first place for the best traditional handicrafts sculptures. The second place went “Bayt Al Khanyar”, while the third place was given to the “Abu Dhabi Register for Artisans”.

The “Arts and Crafts” sector is a platform that allows Emiratis to showcase their innovations, whether they are individuals or institutions. This provides a great opportunity for them to communicate with the public, who enjoys arts and crafts related cultural heritage.

ADIHEX, organised by the Emirates Falconers’ Club will take place from 23rd August to 29th of 2023. The event will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, which is sponsored by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAAD), the International Fund for Houbara Conservation, and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Caracal International LLC is the sector partner, and industry partners include the European Foundation for Falconry and Conservation (EFFC), the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation and Dubai International Horse Fai.
