Abu Dhabi City wins Gold in the City E Category whilst Abu Dhabi Corniche takes Silver in Project Category

VALLETTA. 4th June 2023. (WAM). — Abu Dhabi City won the coveted Gold Award for the Dynamic Community Award, in the City E Category.

The award, which was presented by the Department of Municipalities and Transport and the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, was announced during the award ceremony in Malta on 2 June 2023.

Abu Dhabi City also won the Silver Award in the Project Category. This recognition was given to the Abu Dhabi Corniche Parks and Gardens Project.

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, which actively participated in the City and Project categories and won both Gold and silver awards, has outpaced all participating countries.

This achievement highlights Abu Dhabi City’s global reputation as one of world’s most progressive cities, known for its livability, the happiness that it provides its residents and visitors, with an inclusive, age-friendly approach.

This award was created as a result of a collaboration between the LivCom Committee and the United Nations International Institute on Ageing – Malta, ISOCARP, United Nations Centre for Regional Development, Birgu City, and American University of Malta.

Saif Bader al Qubaisi Director-General, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City and all its affiliates expressed their immense pride at the international recognition that the Emirate Abu Dhabi has earned. They also stressed the importance of this milestone as it serves as a catalyst to further achievements. This achievement reflects the remarkable resurgence of Abu Dhabi City under a visionary leadership.

The LivCom Award was established in 1997 and is the most prestigious competition sanctioned by the United Nations.

The award aims to highlight global best practices for local environmental management, sustainable development and city planning based on six criteria. Its goal is to improve the quality of living by encouraging “livable communities”. The LivCom Award is a competition that attracts 260 cities, 42 projects.
