Exports of Indian tea to the UAE, UK and Poland reach record levels

NEW DELHI (WAM), 11th May 2023 –Indian Minister for Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath Pantdey has praised the record-breaking tea exported to the UAE, saying, “This achievement is a testimony to quality and innovative tea industry.”

Andrew Yule and Company (the only government-owned tea company in the UAE, founded in 1863) has achieved its highest growth rate ever, with tea sales up a staggering 431 percent in a single year.

This one-year period runs from 1st April 2020 to 31st march 2019, which is the end of India’s fiscal year. This Central Public Sector Enterprise, which operates 15 tea gardens in two eastern Indian states, has its main markets in the UAE and the UK.

The gardens offer specialty teas such as moondrop, silver needle, oolong, and cut, tear, curl (CTC) teas.

CTC is the most popular tea in the world. Tea leaves are rolled through rollers that have hundreds of sharp teeth. These teeth crush, tear and curl the tea leaves into hard, small pellets.

Andrew Yule and Company, a government-owned company, has just ventured into the “tea tourist” industry with the opening of its first tea resort in Darjeeling.
