ERC will support the reconstruction of Tishreen University, Syria

LATAKIA. 4th May 2023. (WAM). – As part “Operation Gallant Knight 2”, an Emirates Red Crescent delegation visited the Tishreen university in the Syrian Latakian Governorate . The visit was to study whether it is possible to improve the educational buildings that were damaged by the earthquake of February 6, based on the friendly and cooperative relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Syrian Arab Republic.

The ERC team visited the central library, computer center and faculties of engineering and medicine to assess the state of the faculties and to identify improvements that could be made.

Mohammed Khamis Al Kaabi (Head of the ERC Delegation) was received by Dr. Bassam Hassan as the Rector of Tishreen University to discuss possible avenues for joint cooperation in support of the UAE’s humanitarian relief and recovery initiatives to assist the Syrian people throughout the recovery and reconstruction plan.

Dr. Bassam Hassan has praised the ERC for its efforts to support higher education and community development in Syria. He stated that a technical group was formed in coordination with Latakia Governorate, to prepare a report about the state of the buildings affected by the earthquake. A second committee was set up to provide mental and medical assistance to the shelter centres.

Al Kaabi, for his part said that the ERC will spare no effort in supporting the university reconstruction plans.
