NAIROBI. 4th May 2023. (WAM). Heavy rains have caused flooding and landslides in Rwanda, and in Uganda. Rescuers are searching for survivors trapped inside homes.
In a press release, Rwandan President Paul Kagame said that his government is helping the affected people. This includes temporary relocations.
Francois Habegeko is the governor of Rwanda’s Western Province. He said, “Our priority right now is to get to every house that was damaged so we can save any trapped person.”
Since late March, Rwanda and Uganda are experiencing heavy rains. Other elevated areas in Uganda have also reported landslides, such as Kasese, near the Rwenzori Mountains, where floods and deluges have destroyed homes and forced hundreds to flee.
