The China Earthquake Networks Centre, a state-run news agency, reported that the earthquake struck Baoshan, in Yunnan Province, southwest China, at 11:27 PM on Tuesday, Beijing time.
Three people were hurt in the earthquake. Local authorities activated level-III emergency response, and sent rescue teams into the disaster area.
At a Wednesday morning press conference, Zhang Yunyi said that the earthquake had caused various degrees of damage in residential houses, to water, electricity and communication infrastructure, as well as traffic and transportation.
At this time, more than 11,00 residents have moved to safer areas after 2,805 homes were damaged.
CENC said that the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 25,35 degrees north longitude and 99,28 degrees east latitude, with a 10 km depth.
