SHARJAH (WAM), 2nd May 2023 – The Sharjah Executive Council, chaired H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi (Crown Prince, Deputy Governor of Sharjah and Chair of the SEC) approved on Tuesday the “Genetic Coding Programme”, a project that will classify biodiversity within the Emirate Sharjah. This is the first such program in the region.

The SEC also discussed plans and proposals for achieving the Emirate’s vision of enhancing its leadership position in vital sectors on a local and global level.

The project’s goal is to create a database that contains genetic codes for all types of organisms. It will also use laboratories to identify living organisms on a DNA level. It will facilitate data access and make them available to scientists, and it will contribute to plans for preservation of living organisms. The project will also provide the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with information that can be used to evaluate red lists and to qualify national cadres for genetic coding research.

The SEC, in keeping with the rapid growth in the aviation industry and in line with the Emirate of Sharjah’s development, approved two draft laws for reorganizing the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and the Sharjah Airport Authority Authority (SAA). It also directed that the Sharjah Consultative Council complete its legislative session by referring the two drafts.

The SEC examined the response from the Sharjah Districts and Villages Affairs Department to the SCC’s recommendations, in regards to discussing the SDVAD policy. This is in order for the SDVAD to strengthen government work, enhance cooperation with society and achieve its aspirations, in line with the vision of the emirate.
