Doordarshan and WAM jointly produced documentary focuses on ‘highly-successful’ UAE-India CEPA

A documentary produced jointly by India’s Prasar Bharati public broadcaster and Emirates News Agency, (WAM), has highlighted the “highly successful” Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed by India and the UAE last year.

Doordarshan India, Prasar Bharati’s international news channel, aired today the documentary titled India-UAE Partnership : New Frontiers, New Milestones, to mark the first anniversary the UAE-India CEPA.

In the documentary, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said that the first year of CEPA was a great success for both countries. It has also helped to consolidate one of the most significant international relationships.

“We have delivered for not just the UAE and India but also for the entire region. In 2022, non-oil exports will grow by 10 percent and surpass US$49 billion. He explained that the early 2023 indications show this upward trend will continue.

Al Zeyoudi detailed the impact of the CEPA agreement on the bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries. He described the CEPA as “a key turning point in the economic stories we have told and a model for global collaboration.”

Piyush Goyal, Indian minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, stated, “The whole story is about trust and commitment.”

Goyal, who praised the “wonderful” relations between top leaders in the UAE and India, explained the potential for bilateral economic and commercial relations supported by CEPA.

Former UAE ambassador to India Dr. Ahmed Al Banna recalled his first meetings with Indian officials in order to gauge India’s interest in the CEPA. He revealed that the Indian government had a positive response shortly after. He also shared the details about one of the fastest bilateral agreements and the impact it has on relations.

Sunjay Sudhir is the Indian ambassador to the UAE. He called the CEPA between the UAE and India a “trendsetter”, as it was one of many such agreements that the UAE has signed with other countries.

“For us, this is a CEPA that we have with a partner who is already our third biggest trading partner and second largest export destination. It is important for us,” Sudhir said.

The documentary has been published on WAM’s website and its social media channels. This joint effort is built on an existing Memorandum of Understanding between WAM, Prasar Bharati and other areas of cooperation.
